Eddie Martini's

You got the world on a string

A lot of great things happen weekly at Eddie Martini’s but perhaps none as important as the support Eddie and the guests throw behind the Cystic Fibrosis cause. It has crossed the $100,000 donation barrier.Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disease that affects mainly the lungs and digestive system, causing progressive disability. However, with the continuous introduction of many new treatments, the life expectancy of a person with CF is increasing. Lung transplantation is often necessary as CF worsens.

But Eddie Martini’s has raised over $100,000 for research of this disease. And progress is being made. Life expectancy has tripled in 25 yrs of research creating a need for adult care (now 44% of patients are adult age); The average life expectancy is now 37 yrs old. Two drugs that are in trial 2 with the FDA actually act on eliminating the disease itself. The aim of trial 2 is to simply get more test cases documented. The fact is, 100% of the patients in trial 1 saw success with the new drug.

Cystic fibrosis is one of the most common life-shortening, childhood-onset inherited diseases. In the United States, 1 in 3900 children are born with CF[1]. It is most common among Europeans and Ashkenazi Jews; one in twenty-two people of European descent are carriers of one gene for CF, making it the most common genetic disease in these populations. Ireland has the highest rate of CF carriers in the world (1 in 19).
